McKenzie therapy (disc herniation)

McKenzie therapy (disc herniation)

The McKenzie method is a method developed for spinal problems, primarily disc herniation and lower-back pain. Its effectiveness lies in the fact that, through an individual assessment, the physiotherapist maps out — based on the patient's movements and complaints — which movements induce pain or restricted motion, and designs a personalized exercise sequence adapted to this. The method becomes truly effective once the patient learns the exercises and performs them at home on a daily basis.

The goal of the therapy is to reduce and eliminate pain, thereby achieving full range of motion in the joints of the spine. The patient must be taught how to avoid and prevent the pain from returning and how to achieve a symptom-free state in the long term.

It is recommended for anyone who has any lower-back pain, signs suggesting a disc herniation, or a diagnosed disc herniation!

During treatment the physiotherapist carries out a detailed assessment and then teaches the patient, step by step, the exercises they can perform regularly at home as well. A major advantage of the McKenzie method is that the patient becomes an active participant in their own recovery and learns to recognize the signs that help prevent the complaints from returning. At FizioTars we supplement the therapy with other treatment methods as needed, to achieve the best possible result.
